Jacob is a troubling character in the Old Testament. He is conniving and he is spiritual too. He has moments of strong faith as well as of fear. His family is sometimes in disarray, and yet at the end he is the one who sets it straight. Jacob, whose very name suggests "deceiver," is renamed by God as "Israel".

Elijah is a vivid Biblical example of a modern epidemic that has spread through our society … an epidemic rampant under especially woman today. I came across this humorous anecdote: "I see you were last employed by a psychiatrist," said the potential employer to the applicant. "Why did you leave?" "Well," she replied, "I just couldn't win. If I was late to work, I was hostile and passive aggressive. If I was early, I had an anxiety complex and I was controlling and judgmental. If I was on time, I was obsessive compulsive. So I decided to leave. That’s when he said I was noncommittal and depressed." Elijah. Was. D:pressed."

Easter - there is hope. Hope is firmly connected with Faith & Love (together three important pillars). Believing is a decision! We need friends (like two going to Emmaus). JESUS appears to those who really needed to see him most. This was relevant then and is still relevant today. Using 1 Corinthians 15:1-9. I reflect on what was the impacted of certain individuals when they saw the resurrected Jesus. I then look at the at James' story from unbelief, rejection to restoration and belief. Then finally I allow personal reflection on where we are in our story that the LORD has planned for each of our lives.

No matter our current situation in life, we will all face suffering of some sort, and struggle to find the meaning in it.  The search for answers to why suffering happens is very relevant today and yet age-old, and no book written addresses this issue as beautifully and completely as what is likely the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job.

The Twelve Apostles all had human traits we are all very familiar with. But they journeyed with Jesus from being mere Fisherman, Tax Collectors, and ordinary men, to ultimately establishing a movement that has literally swept humanity and changed the face of the Earth for the past 2000 years. All because they became followers of Christ. Followers are committed. Fans can be fickle. Followers trust their leader. Fans trust their leader only when it benefits them. Followers want a vision. Fans want a show. Followers are devoted and disciplined (disciplined after their masters example or teachings). Fans are fanatic for a season.

God took the initiative and called Abraham from everything he knew. Through Abraham's obedience we see the heart that God wants. Abraham is not to be studied as a historical figure, but as the model of faith. While Abraham did not always make correct decisions, there was no hint of rebellion in him. Over 38 years God built up his faith to such a point that he was willing to lay down his sons life. The lesson and challenge is what we will do when God asks us to lay down what is most important to us.
